A fireworks cruise flips the whole experience around. Instead of looking at the fireworks past a crowd, you watch them burst right over the water in front of you, with an open and unobstructed view. Many cruises sail out for the sunset first, so you get golden hour over Diamond Head and then the fireworks as the grand finale.
Cruises also tend to feel more special. Depending on the boat you choose, the evening may include drinks, music, and a comfortable seat with no jostling for position. A few things a cruise gives you that the beach cannot:

If you are traveling on a tight budget or want a spontaneous, low key night, the beach is hard to beat. If you are celebrating something, want the best possible view, or simply want to skip the crowds, a cruise turns the fireworks into a whole experience. Remember that cruises serving alcohol are for guests 21 and over, so bring a valid ID.

There is no bad answer here. The beach is free, easy, and full of island spirit, while a fireworks cruise gives you an unbeatable view, a sunset sail, and a night to remember. If it is your first time, the beach is a fine introduction. If you want the fireworks to feel like the main event, book a cruise and watch the Waikiki sky light up from the best seat in the harbor.
